The first thing we noticed is the beautiful bezel-less design. Very few TVs we’ve seen pull this off just as well as this 55 incher. It also has a wider bottom panel which houses the soundbar and features the VU logo on the right side. This is a departure from the earlier Premium design which had a thinner panel. It is subjective, but we do like this design choice better than the previous iteration. The TV comes with standard feet if you opt to place it on a TV unit or a table. Nothing special here. Back of the TV offers the normal fair, nothing to write home about.

Build Quality

The 2023 Premium Series TV has all plastic build of above average quality. TV does not flex while moving it around which does inspire some confidence. The TV seems to be a bit heavier than other TVs of the same size. Overall, we think the build quality is decent and you would have nothing to worry about. Just don’t drop it from a height.

Display: 400 Nits A+ panel

This 55 inch TV has a 400 nits A+ IPS panel that delivers stunning 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG technology. These technologies improve the colour details, sharpness, depth, and contrast by optimising the black and white levels, giving you clear visuals even in dark scenes. The TV also has a low-reflection screen that reduces the distracting glares of the sunlight or any other source of light. Brightness of the TV is good. Colors appear to be very saturated, but then that can be adjusted via the settings. Viewing angles are good, although moving towards the extremes does introduce slight color shift.

Audio: 50W built-in Soundbar

One of things Vu does differently on this TV is the powerful 50W built-in soundbar that consists of two master and two tweeter speakers. The soundbar produces impressive bass and treble, delivering clear vocals and sound effects. The TV also supports Dolby Atmos sound enhancement and surround sound technology, creating a cinematic audio experience in your living room. It enables you to enjoy crystal-clear dialogue, balanced sound, and loudness without distortion. Connectivity

Vu has gone with the standard configuration of 2 side mounted and 1 under side mounted HDMI ports. The one on the side supports ARC as well. There are 2 side mounted USB ports and a headphones jack. RF and RCA, SPDIF and LAN connectors are located on the under panel. Power is delivered via standard 2-pin power cable.

There is Dual Band Wifi support on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands which offer faster and more stable internet connectivity. You can stream online content without buffering or interruptions. Support for Bluetooth 5.0 enables you to connect your wireless headphones, speakers, game controllers, and other devices to the TV. These have become more or less standard features in current generation of TVs. But still it is good to see that Vu has not skimped on the connectivity department.

Smart TV features

The Vu 55 inches The Premium Series 4K TV is powered by a quad core processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage that ensures smooth performance and fast response. The processor handles multiple tasks and apps without lagging or freezing. The processor also supports MEMC (Motion Estimation Motion Compensation) and Motion Judder Cancellation, which eliminate motion blur and judder in fast-moving scenes. We did notice small jitters and very quick lag which was not repeatable.

The TV comes loaded with Google TV stock ROM, which is an upgraded version of Android TV. Google TV offers a personalised and intuitive interface that lets you access your favourite apps, content, and recommendations from Google. We do enjoy using Google TV interface over the tired Android TV GUI. Support for Google Assistant allows you to control your TV with your voice, search for movies and shows, get answers, and more. The TV also has Chromecast built-in, which lets you cast your smartphone or tablet screen to the TV wirelessly.

ActiVoice and Hotkey Remote

The remote is small sized and features all the buttons we have come to associate with smart TVs. The D-Pad design is circular and the remote itself is smother around the edges. Vu calls its voice command feature ActiVoice. The remote control has a dedicated Google Assistant button and four hotkeys for Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and YouTube Music. You can use ActiVoice remote to activate Google Assistant with your voice and control your TV hands-free. No complains here.
