Other options at around Rs 60,000 provide so much choice that picking out a great laptop at this price becomes quite difficult. Laptops with Intel Core i5 processors dominate here with great price-to-performance numbers. There are but a few good AMD Ryzen powered models to choose form which are very power efficient but often fail to excite in terms of performance. Let take a closer look at our choice for the best laptop at 60000, and why we think it is the real deal. If you budget is around 80000, this could be a great option.
What to Expect from the Best Laptop at 60000
At this price point, we expect entry to mid-level performance. For gaming laptops, that extends to being able to play most modern games at 1080p with high settings. A good high refresh rate display is cherry on top. The product lineup in this range is quite varied and full of surprises. The Acer ALG Gaming Laptop delivers on most of the points above.
Design & Build
This is a stylish laptop. It is quite sleek and feels well built. It features aluminum lid with raised ridges creating a pattern which reflects light at different angles which gives it a distinctive look. The lid flexes a little, but it should not be a cause for concern. The lip is also fairly easy to open and close.
The keyboard is backlit and provides good feel. It is a full keyboard with num pad and is similar to what we see on Acer’s Nitro units. Air vent grills on the sides also follow the gaming series design language.
Performance
Intel’s 12th generation Core i5s are well represented in the mid-range laptop category and for good reason. Although, power efficiency and battery life aren’t great when compared to the competition, they do offer great performance for the price. The ALG moniker alludes to ‘lite gaming’, but the 12450H with 4 performance and 4 efficiency cores (12 threads) is great for everyday general use and stretching up to comfortable video editing and other light workstation jobs, it is a great choice for varied workloads. Boosting up to 4.4GHz from a base frequency of 2GHz, single core workloads remain snappy and responsive.
The laptop comes loaded with 16GB DDR4 RAM (3200MHz) in dual channel mode which only compliments its performance. Geekbench scores in the wild average 2167 for single core and 8040 for multi-core which confirm ample power. Acer have done a great job of pairing a good motherboard with this system. There is an argument to be made for DDR5 RAM, but the performance delta doesn’t justify the price difference in our view.
Graphics performance of GeForce 3050 with 6GB VRAM is not bottlenecked by the processor and will run most modern games at 1080p with medium to low settings. High settings will drop 1% frame rates to below 60, while still remaining very playable. Most e-titles will give you great frame rates to go with the high refresh rate display.
The laptop does get hot when running heavy workloads, but it nothing that will ever bother you. Surface temperature hovers around 35ºC under full load. Max processor temps are around 86ºC, which is within design spec.
Display
The unit comes with a good 15.6-inch Full HD IPS panel capable of doing 144Hz refresh rate. At this price point, it would be difficult to find great color reproduction and very bright displays, and Acer ALG AL15G-52 is not an exception. Brightness is rated at 300 nits (most measurements peg it a little under 300), which we would say is standard for most budget laptops. It won’t disappoint for gaming, binge watching or everyday use.
Nvidia GeForce 3050 is a great entry-level graphics card. With 6GB RAM, this will keep you happy in all modern games running at full HD on low to medium settings. High settings on e-games will still you very good frame rates. For the price, it is great combination. The TGP is reduced, however, the performance drop is hardly noticeable, if any at all.
Connectivity & Battery Life
You get a good mix of ports with Acer ALG Gaming Laptop AL15G-52. There are 2 USB Type-A ports, of which one supports USB 3.2 and the other is a USB 2.0. It also gets 2 USB 3.2 Type-C ports. Also featured is a Gigabit network port. Acer have gone the route of separate headphones and microphone jacks on this one, which some gamers might find favourable.
Network wise, it features a Wifi 6 powered by Intel chip and fully supports BlueTooth 5.1.
Battery life is underwhelming, as most Intel 12th Gen H-series i5s are power hungry. The 54Wh battery may feel less capable when medium to heavy use is required. For light workloads like watching video or browsing the internet, most users should get around 4-5 hours of battery life.
Conclusion
Acer ALG Gaming Laptop AL15G-52 is our choice for a budget laptop for students and entry-level gamers. It has a standout design that will definitely appeal to the younger users. Build quality is good. The combination of Intel Core i5 12450H with Nvidia GeForce 3050 with 16GB DDR4 RAM delivers performance that will carry most workloads with ease. The display is also easy on the eyes and compliments the gaming experience well. Acer has you covered on the connectivity with plenty of ports and high-speed networking options, although, we feel the selection could have been better.
This laptop should drop down to around 55K with offers, and that price point it delivers fantastic value and becomes an unbeatable option. At its current price, it is a great deal and wins our recommendation as the best laptop at 60000.
